Maneki Neko, The Beckoning Cat Print from original gouache painting.

A print of an original, goache painting of the Maneki Neko, also known as the beckonging/waving/lucky cat. This cat is iconic, originating in Japan and dating back to the 17th century and has been bringing luck and prosperity to homes and businesses ever since.

When deciding how to paint this specific Maneki Neko, I learnt that everything about it means something. The white colouring represents positivity, purity and happiness. The fact it has its right paw raised means it attracts money and good fortune. Then in terms of what it’s holding, the Koban coin represents wealth and prosperity, and the koi carp signals that it will bring abundance and good fortune. Even his collar and bell has a meaning, it is supposed to suggest that the cat has a wealthy owner like the noble cat owners of the Japanese Edo period, but honestly, this cat just has one because it looked really cute!

The print is available in A5, (approx 14.5 x 21 cm), A4 (approx 21 x 29.7 cm), and A3 (approx 29.7 x 42 cm) sizes, on a beautiful, thick recycled paper.

All prints are signed and dated by the artist and are sent in a protective cellophane bag in a hard backed envelope marked 'Do Not Bend', or rolled into a postage tube for larger sizes, to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition.

Please note, this print does not come framed.
